New Date Rape Drugs Detection Products Being Developed

date-rape-drugsUnfortunately, the number of confirmed cases of sexual assault involving drugs is on the rise. Today, there are a number of available drugs that can be added to a person’s food or drink without being detected. Known more commonly as “date rape drugs”, they act as a sedative, making it possible for a predator to take control of someone without putting up resistance.

These drugs are not only highly dangerous they are highly effective because of having no color, odor, or taste. This means a woman in a bar could easily have her drink spited without any knowledge whatsoever. Depending on the drug used, she may become only slightly incapacitated or fully unaware of being sexually assaulted, even after the fact. The other problem with date rape drugs is that most dissipate quickly, thereby making them undetectable upon examination.

Date Rape Drugs Detection Products

To fight the war on sexual assault in relation to date rape drugs, innovators in North Carolina are working on an unusual weapon. The founders of Undercover Colors are developing an innovative line of nail polish capable of detecting three specific drugs to include GHB, Xanax, and Rohypnol.

Wearing the nail polish, a woman can simply stick her finger in a drink and upon changing color she would immediately know it had been spiked with one of those three date rape drugs. Although the nail polish is still in the funding phase and under development, it offers a great way for women to stay safe.

In addition to nail polish, there are currently a number of other products on the market capable of detecting date rape drugs. For instance, DrinkSavvy is a company responsible for developing drink stirrers, straws, cups, and glasses that can detect the presence of a date rape drug. If a drink had been spiked, the products turn from clear to red.

Drink Safe Technologies is yet another company with products capable of detecting Ketamine and GHB.

In order for any of the products mentioned, a woman must first be aware or suspicious that her drink was tampered with. The good news – these products work. Although there are high hopes for the nail polish being developed, the products that have been most successful are those from DrinkSavvy. To encourage women to purchase the products for the sake of safety, the company makes them affordable.

Bars are typically the most dangerous environments but women need to know that drinks can be spiked with a date rape drug anywhere.
