Eli Lilly & Co. (LLY)’s drug Cialis, which is an erectile dysfunction drug, will be now sold by Sanofi (SAN) without any prescription, after both the companies have signed an agreement for the marketing right of these orange pills.

Without disclosing the exact terms of the agreement that would be signed with the Indianapolis-based Lilly, the Paris-based company Sanofi made a statement that Sanofi will be applying to get the approval of Cialis to be sold without doctor’s prescriptions in Europe, U.S., Australia as well as Canada. The drug will be marketed after the expiration of certain patents.

The contract provides Sanofi with an access to this drug that had an excellent sale of $2.16 billion last year. ‘Til 2017, it is not expecting to face any sort of market competition. Sanofi’s CEO, Chris Viehbacher, has a keen interest in the acquisitions of consumer health care companies and hence this deal would suffice his interest as well.
