In a ground breaking research, scientists have now come up with a new technology wherein parents can identify their new borne for presence of disease and other health conditions. The company GenePeeks has come up with the Matchright technology, creates digital embryos by mixing the genetic materials or DNA inheriting the properties of male and female genome. This technology will be highly sorted for, in case of test tube babies or cases of infertility where sperm donors and surrogate mothers are involved.

New York-based group, Genepeeks, is about to launch a service in the U.S. capable of digitally combining the DNA of two people to create ‘virtual babies’

This new technology will allow researchers to screen unborn foetus from inheriting genetic diseases. It will be launched across two clinics in America by end of this month. Dr Lee Silver from Princeton University has collaborated with GenePeeks for this research initiative. This technology covers the entire range of genetic diseases, by analyzing what the baby can be prone to. It is intended to identify rare symptoms like cystic fibrosis and Tay-Sachs disease, which is inherited by the child when both parents carry a single gene mutation.

The digital embryo can be studied after analyzing the genetic sequences of father and mother. Sequencing of parental DNA is done for presence of disorders. This new technology feeds this information through algorithms, to create a genetic recombination of the sequences. Digital embryo is created by mixing genetic information from ova and sperm .This enables scientists to look at the possible genetic makeup of the embryos. The possible finding of this study is reported in New Scientist.

As for women patients who want to select a donor from fertility clinics, this algorithm can be run to confirm the sperm donor, who could be screened against inborn or genetic diseases. The chances of fertilization will also increase and so will the number of successful implants. It is believed to produce up to 10,000 embryos per pairing. This technology can screen for mutations and a wide array of around 500 diseases can be screened. Parents can now be assured that their new born babies are safe.
