Increased Pollen Count – Night Mare for Allergy Sufferers

Very soon with the departure of winter, people will be relieved from nostril congestions, but that is not enough to comfort the allergy suffers across the country. Frequent change in climatic conditions have magnified the pollen counts and stretched the pollen season.
Carbon dioxide is the major component for the food production in plants and also plays a major role in increasing the pollen count. Scientists have proved this through an experiment in which they grow a plant in an isolated and closed chamber by injecting limited amount of carbon dioxide in it. After holding the inference of the experiment, scientists witnessed drastic changes.

Although various types of allergens are identified in nature, one of them is ragweed because of the ability to isolate the effects of carbon dioxide around this species and produce copious pollen.

Researches tell that the pollen volume has enormously increased, which is nearly double until 1999 when the normal carbon dioxide level was measured to be 370 ppm when compared with the pre-industrial period when the level was about 280 ppm. With the increase in human population, carbon dioxide level has also increased, resulting in rise in the volume of pollens. A research published that when carbon dioxide level will rise up to 720 ppm pollen count will just be doubled, which is predicted to happen by the year 2075.

It’s also found that the pollen season is stretched in most of the places in Midwest. In upper Midwest, the ragweed pollen season has been lengthened to 24 hrs as per the survey reports from 1995 to 2011. Conditions in southern plains are little soothing for allergy sufferers as the pollen season is witnessed to be squeezed by one day.

As per a common fact, the increased carbon dioxide level is rising the temperature of earth; the same is also responsible for driving this kind of sudden changes. In the initial spring when the temperature is high, plants start to grow at a higher rate and the later frost permits them to hang no longer. If such climatic state continues, pollen season will be compelled to lengthen. However, the condition is not the same all over the country.
Such bad news can bring nightmare to those Americans who currently suffer from at least one type of allergy.
